The Whispered Word is the second book in Ellery Adams' Secret Book and Scone Society Mystery series. I absolutely loved the first book in this series. It was a thoughtful and compelling book. I agreed to read an arc copy of this second book for an honest review. I can honestly say that I wondered if the author could possibly craft another book with the same complicated characters, marvelous setting, I intriguing plot, and again make me fell like these characters and place are real, and make me care deeply what happens to them. Well, I can honestly say that Ellery. Adams has done it again. The Whispered Word is a brilliant addition to this beautiful written series. Do yourself a huge favor and read both the first and this new second book in the series.

Welcome back to Miracle Springs, North Carolina. The ladies of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society once again come together to heal and solve a murder. A stranger comes to town and brings a secret she can not even share with the club members. Mysteries unravel and it is up to the club members to help sweet, quiet, and hurt Abilene. They see themselves as her big sisters and they know she has a sad secret. When a townsperson is murdered, questions begin to surround Abilene.

This is not a "traditional" cozy. This book is more than just a cozy. Does it have an almost idealistic setting? Yes. Does it have a female heroine? Yes. Does a murder take place "off screen"? Yes. But there is more. There are emotional scenes that would interest women's fiction lovers. There is a mystery for the mystery lovers. But, there is more. Ellery Adams works magic and I can only hope for another trip to Miracle Springs soon!
After getting to know the major characters in Whispered Word, this felt like a visit with old much loved friends, with the introduction of new characters, like the sheriff. I'm hoping he will be in the next book too. While the mystery is exciting, Ms Adams also weaves in so many quiet peaceful moments, I read slower to savor the beauty of the words. I did not want this book to end. Book clubs will find many interesting nuggets for discussion. This is definitely a 5 star read, even better than the first of the series.
This novel was read in one sitting. Each word within held me transfixed with the interpersonal relationships of the women who are using their new friendships to mend their physical and internal scars.

Add to that very real drama a shocking murder and you find yourself trying to make sense of the cause. First is it a murder or a horrible circumstance that led to suicide? Did anyone truly know the victim? The only things of value in the life of the victim are treasured books. Why?

If the women hadn't formed a book club and begun the brave journey to new friendships, might they themselves have been the victim?

This novel is not a mere murder mystery. Neither is the book a mere novel. This novel is a book of brilliance into the human condition. Some outcomes are positive, some are painful, and yes, some have deadly consequences. This novel is a brilliant reflection into lives lived and you may find, as I did, a resonance within yourself.

I predict Ms. Adams will become an Author of Classics.
Although abuse is addressed in these novels I believe the author does it in the very best way. Triumph through friendship and hard won trust is the exacting recipe for healing. As always of course the author also spins her story with such cleverness that you hardly notice the lovingly taught lessons we all need reminders of on a daily basis, trust, friendship, and the willingness to believe we can do better when we pull together.
Another “could not put it down” novel from Ellery Adams! This is the second book in the story of 4 magnificent ladies, each with a special secret that had shaped her life.

The book was an immediate draw, and I was again I transported to that village of Miracle Springs, where the outside world disappears. And it is a rather rude awakening when there are no more pages to turn, and I had to come back to my worle. Spellbinding is a good word to describe this book, as I was certainly under its spell

The story picks up right at the end of the previous book in this series, The Secret, Book, and Scone Society. A waif of a young girl appears in Miracle Books, and Nora and her friends help the young girl unlock secrets from her past.

The plot sounds simplistic, but the magic of Mystic Springs comes forth from the book, and the reader is enveloped in a blanket of calmness. It is very hard to put the aura of the book into words. Just trust and believe me when I say there is a seriously great and talented author here.

The books do not have to be read in order, so scoop this one up right away! I realize the author is only human, but maybe Santa can help so that Ms. Adams fans can return to Miracle Springs soon.
